Dinosaurs Of Japan (Capsule Q Museum by Kaiyodo)

For most of the field’s history, the bulk of paleontological research has occurred in North America, a fact reflected in the average dinosaur shelf lineup. There’s certainly no shortage of figures representing classics like Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus, while more obscure species from elsewhere in the world languish in the shadows.

Jurassic World Dominion Minis part 2 (Jurassic World by Mattel)

Well, I’ve shown you the worst of this line, let’s waste no time and get straight on to the best of them!

Starting off the top half is everyone’s favourite three horned herbivore Triceratops. This features one of the best poses of the lot (something I haven’t talked at length about as most the figures are in a generic standing pose), an aggressive fight pose, all the better when you have two to joust with.

Prehistoric Tube C (CollectA)

4.1 (15 votes)

Since they first started producing tube sets back in 2015, CollectA has covered a pretty decent variety of prehistoric life, wild animals, sea creatures, and farm stock. In 2021, they went back to the beginning with a third dinosaur (mostly) set consisting of ten figures, all based on previously released toys.

Therizinosaurus (2018 Repaint)(Conquering the Earth by Schleich)

Review and photos by ‘Resurrection of the dinosaurs,’ edited by Suspsy. As I wrote a review about a repainted figure in my last review for the DTB, I figured I would finish reviewing repainted figures instead of skipping to other ones. So here I am with the Schleich ‘Conquering the Earth’ 2018 repainted Therizinosaurus.

Therizinosaurs were among the strangest dinosaurs ever, and I really like them very much. They were late Cretaceous theropods, yet herbovires, and their overall appearance is so strange and deviates from standard dinosaur scheme pretty much. Huge bellies, a beak and feathers make Therizinosaurs look like gigantic turkeys. Their lifestyle, however, probably resembled that of a panda or an also prehistoric ground sloth.

When it comes to dinosaurs, I believe there are essentially two attributes that attract us. They are either fearsome, or fancy. The fearsome ones are easy enough to spot, bearing a great deal of menace and lethality. Others may seem less terrifying, but fall into the “fancy” category. Exotic spiked frills, elaborate head crests, and armored plating all make for a visually interesting subject in a model or figure.

Although only scant remains of Therizinosaurus have been uncovered, careful study of its more complete relatives Alxasaurus, Nothronychus, and Falcarius have given us a reasonable idea of how it looked and lived. We also know for a fact that it possessed the largest claws of any dinosaur.

Therizinosaurus (Dinosaur King by Sega Toys)

Once again, I am looking into what can happen when a property becomes extremely popular: merchandising. Such is the case for the Dinosaur King franchise. After the success of the arcade game, a manga series and anime were commissioned and, as a result, a series of figure lines were made, from small 2” lines, arcade exclusives and an articulated line.

The year 1993 was a big year for dinosaur fanatics, the most obvious reason being the release of Jurassic Park in June of that year. It is difficult for me, and likely others of my generation, to grasp just how long ago that was and how much has changed since.

Review and Photos by Dr Andre Mursch (“Brontodocus”). Edited by Plesiosauria.
One of the most bizarre dinosaurs ever found was Therizinosaurus cheloniformis from the Nemegt formation of Mongolia, which is approximately 70 million years old. Today it is a famous dinosaur every enthusiast has an image about how it looked like but that was not always the case.

If you were purchasing dinosaur toys two decades ago there is one family you wouldn’t have seen represented at all, the Therizinosauridae. Though known to science since 1954 it is a family that was very poorly known only until recently. Therizinosaurs represent just how little we know about dinosaurs and how much we still have to learn, who knows what entire families of dinosaurs we’ll find within the next couple decades!

Therizinosaurus (Jurassic World: Dominion, Sound Slashin’ by Mattel)

3.8 (15 votes)

The Mattel Therizinosaurus we’re looking at today is among the most highly anticipated toys of the Jurassic World: Dominion line, and it makes sense. Although we’ve only seen fleeting glimpses of it, we know the herbivorous theropod will have a starring role in Jurassic World: Dominion. This alone makes the Mattel Therizinosaurus a must-have among hardcore collectors.

Therizinosaurus (Papo)

If you’d ask a random person to name a theropod, most would probably be puzzled and not be able to come up with an answer, though anyone who have ever heard of dinosaurs could at least come up with one name: T. rex. The more enthusiast dinosaur fans could easily name some more, like Allosaurus, Carnotaurus, Velociraptor or Giganotosaurus.

Before we start this review I would like to inform all of you loyal reader that this will be my last review for a while. Simply put: I am taking a break. This review was written and finished before events happened in my life that changed everything. I decided to leave the review as is and wanted to have this published sooner rather than later.

One issue that will always plague any creative outlet is this: plagiarism. Many will copy the best for a quick and easy way to get sales or attention. When it’s mentioned here, usually this is in referenced to Geoworld, and they are certainly guilty of this. However, they aren’t the only ones though.
