Review: Deinonychus (Soft model by Favorite Co. Ltd.)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

In spite of not having a name ending in ‘raptor’, Deinonychus remains a high-profile dromaeosaur in the public imagination, and rightly so for an animal that revolutionised our understanding of dinosaurs. This fairly small and affordable toy is manufactured by Favorite, and is clearly modelled on their larger (and somewhat more expensive) resin ‘Desktop’ model.

Review: Acrocanthosaurus (Kaiyodo Dinotales Series 3)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3.8 (16 votes)
Acrocanthosaurus, in my opinion, is one of the coolest theropods ever. Many companies have tried and failed at creating a replica of this peculiar dinosaur, so it’s nice to see a respectable replica of one. This review will be focusing on kaiyodos attempt.

Review: Tarbosaurus (Kaiyodo Dinotales Series 4)

The “Asian Tyrant”, Tarbosaurus, is unfortunately looked over in favor of it’s more famous American cousin, Tyrannosaurus, by toy companies most of the time. Kaiyodo has produced many obscure genera before, so making a Tarbosaurus doesn’t come as a surprise to me.

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, the “Egyptian Spine Lizard” is the largest known theropod that ever existed to be known thus far, surpassing Giganotosaurus at both weight and length! The “Spine Lizard” is one lucky dinosaur, it was once found in 1912 and named three years later by Ernst Stromer Von Reichenbach but its remains were destroyed during bombing in World Ward Two.

Review: Allosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

3.2 (23 votes)
This little Allosaurus comes from Safari’s ‘Wild Safari’ line which, although not intended as a museum-quality line (and not set to a certain scale), has seen a huge leap in the quality of its prehistoric creature toys in recent years. Models like this one, the Stegosaurus, Dunkleosteus and Postosuchus have become very popular with collectors as they feature excellent detailing at a very low price.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (red version) (by Kabaya)

The red Tyrannosaurus differs greatly compared to the Kabaya green T. rex (reviewed here) for three major reasons. One is that it seems to be paying homage to a classical standing posture. Second is the main color scheme which is red – the overall sculpt resembles Diablo, the red Tyrannosaur of Primal Rage, the great Atari Probe video game of the 1990s.

Review: Suchomimus (Dinotales by Kaiyodo)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

4.6 (12 votes)
Suchomimus was a large theropod dinosaur that lived a few million years before one of it’s famous cousins, Spinosaurus. Considering how it’s closely related to such a famous dinosaur, I’m surprised more replicas of this really cool dinosaur haven’t been produced.

We recently reviewed the Kabaya Deinonychus, well, next in line from this series is the Tyrannosaurus rex (Green Version)!

Before the animal was officially known as “T.rex”, it was known as Manospondylus gigas and Dynamosaurus imperiosus, but when the animal’s true name was revealed along with better finds, this coelurosaurian became one of the most popular dinosaurs ever and most likely the most well known all!

In Japan, many figure companies are quite exciting due to their sculpting and selection of lines. For a good example take Bandai’s Godzilla Complete Works, Konami’s Gamera, Kaiyodo’s Dinotales to mention a few and if you know these lines and their respected makers then you know the orient also holds fantastic figures and not just the USA.

Kinto Favorite Desktop Spinosaurus Model
Review by Dan of DansDinosaurs.com
After a fairly prolonged dry spell, the Favorite Company of Japan (formerly known as Kinto) has unveiled a new dinosaur desktop model. This model features the highly-popular Spinosaurus aegypticus, a theropod whose name became famous after appearing in a certain feature film.

Ah, the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex! One of the coolest dinosaurs ever. However, most replicas of this guy are rather crude and don’t do the dinosaur justice – But this one by kinto surely does!

Let’s start off with the sculpt.

Review: Feathered Dinos Tube (Safari Ltd)

4 (21 votes)
Safari Ltd have produced several tubes (or ‘toobs’ as they call them) that contain a diverse selection of mini-dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. These tubes are a great choice for the indecisive amongst us. Why pick one single large dinosaur when you can get an entire tube of small dinosaurs for the same price.
