It looks as though Papo finally has some competition. This Velociraptor by Wild Safari is great, and it can be found pretty cheap too. I bought mine for $7.99. It has to be the best Safari velociraptor ever (All of the other safari velociraptors are ugly in my opinion!).

At last the Carnegie Collection Giganotosaurus is available to the world. This is one of the finest dinosaur pieces of its generation, due to its high level quality. This is simply one of the best dinosaurs Carnegie has ever released, not because it’s an impressive dinosaur, but because it’s very accurate, and very detailed.

The spectacular Utahraptor by Toyway, based on the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs series, is a sleek, slender, rather mean-looking figure. The anatomy is accurate (except for the lack of feathers, but we’ll get to that in a moment), so this is one of the first ‘raptor’ figures to break away from the trendy but erroneous vision put forward by Jurassic Park.

The recently discovered and described Microraptor is known from a number of specimens from China. Not surprisingly, given the short scientific history of this feathered dinosaur, there are very few models or toys of Microraptor. The Carnegie Collection introduced a bunch of feathered dinosaurs in 2005, including this Microraptor, to reflect the recent surge in the number of fossil feathered dinosaurs discovered over the last decade.

Albertosaurus is the smaller cousin of T. rex and is rarely found in the form of a dinosaur toy. The Prehistoric Masterpiece Collection is produced by Japanese sculptors Araki and Shinzen; the figures are hand-painted and also included in this series is a Styracosaurus.

Cheap and cheerful. I think these two words pretty much sum up the dinosaur figures produced by Chap Mei. They are quite unusual, like a cross between Hasbro’s Jurassic Park action figures and, umm, I’m not sure – something else. Barney the Dinosaur?

The Dinomania series by Kaiyodo contains small but very detailed and accurate snap-together figures. The Dinomania series is a rerelease – all the figure in this line were originally released as the UHA Chocolasaur DinoTales Series 3. These Kaiyodo figures in their Dinomania guise came packaged in a box so that the species you got was a surprise.

The Battat Acrocanthosaurus is almost impossible to find nowadays. But there’s a good reason for that: it’s a beautiful replica that puts to shame almost any other version. Chronologically speaking, the Acrocanthosaurus is an appropiate choice for Battat.

T. rex is without a doubt the most popular dinosaur ever. Therefore to make a replica that really stands out turns out to be quite a challenge. Battat achieved that and more. The Battat Rex is yellow and green, the mouth is purple, just like that of the Acrocanthosaurus.
