Review: Dinosaurs (Tim Mee Toys by J. Lloyd International Inc.)

4.2 (33 votes)

Back in 2012 a representative from the toy vendor VictoryBuy joined the Dinosaur Toy forum looking for member feedback with regards to reissuing the Tim Mee set of toy dinosaurs, originally produced in the 1970’s. Flashforward to 2014 and VictoryBuy once again stopped by the forum, this time to announce the actual release of the set.

Review: Mammoth (Cuddly toy giveaway by Mammut)

A Swiss company which produces outdoor clothing and equipment named itself „Mammut“ after the iconic Mammoth, probably because the prehistoric giants were as well equipped against cold and rainy weather conditions as you are supposed to be if you wear a Mammut product.  The company even leads a black mammoth in their logo.

Review: Mammoth Skeleton Tent with Cavemen (Playmobil)

4.9 (7 votes)
As storm clouds gather overhead, a trio of human hunters work quickly to finish erecting their shelter. Fortunately, the mammoth that they recently killed and butchered has provided far more than just food. Its large, sturdy bones form an effective structure while its thick fur hide acts as a waterproof covering.

Review: Micro Tiere Collection (Bullyland)

2.9 (7 votes)
Back in 2010 our own Libraraptor reviewed a little Apatosaurus, part of Bullyland’s Micro Tiere Collection released in 2005. Having found the same little figure in an eBay lot I was very curious about this small but seemly high quality figure. A search yielded his review but further research yielded the rest of the collection and a couple years ago I was able to procure the entire line.

Review: Prehistoric Animal Set (The Ark by Joy City)

4.2 (6 votes)

Every now and again, something rather interesting pops up that you wouldn’t expect to be as good as you’d think. The toy sets you would see at supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl, often seen as cheap item makers, having something worth getting. Here, we examine the Joy City line on prehistoric animals, a counterpoint to there Dinosaur wave, which seems more typical chinasaur.

Review: Prehistoric Animals (Panini, review part 2)

Panini prehistoric animals and dinosaur toys

4.3 (10 votes)
In part 1 of this review we looked at 12 dinosaur toys (and one pterosaur) from Panini’s Prehistoric Animals line. In part 2 we pick up where we left off to complete the full set of 24 toys.

Figure numbers 13 to 15 are a trio of marine reptiles, and their dark blue colour works very well for aquatic animals.

Review: Prehistoric Life Toob (Safari Ltd)

4 (10 votes)
Safari Ltd has released several new tubes in 2010, or Toobs, to be funky but grammatically incorrect, each of which contains a selection of prehistoric critters. But before we pour these new toobs out for review, let’s take a look at one of the existing toob sets.

Review: Prehistoric Mammals Tube (Collecta)

4.2 (17 votes)

Collecta has been bringing out prehistoric animal tubes over the last few years, and while some gave us some great new designs, others have just given us miniature versions of models they already have. This is a case of the latter, as they have released these small versions of their ancient mammals.

Review: Steppe Mammoth (Eofauna)

The 2017 Steppe Mammoth “M. trogontherii” by Eofauna is an incredible and accurate toy.  It was sculpted by making 3d scans of real steppe mammoth skeletons.  It is in 1:40 scale and the scale is based on the largest specimen found.

So who and what was the steppe mammoth?

Papo has produced some excellent prehistoric toy dinosaur figures recently as you undoubtedly know – not always accurate but always 100% high quality, with remarkable detail. But this review is about one of their discontinued figures from our more recent past.

Review: Woolly Mammoth (12″)(Douglas Cuddle Toys)

No other prehistoric animal has touched my soul quite like the gentle woolly mammoth. Their gentleness, their ability to love, and yet their tragedy has captivated me since childhood. I have even written a song, “If I Can Reach You In Time,” which puts to music my longing to see and touch a mammoth, and the quest to find mammoth DNA in time to rescue the species from extinction.

This review is of a resin model my parents bought me at the Smithsonian back in 2000, my very first ever woolly mammoth toy! I remember clutching her lovingly in the cafeteria as we chowed down on pizza in the museum restaurant.
