The UKRD dinosaurs were mass-produced back in the early 1990s’, and don’t seem to be particularly sought after today, but some of them appear to have been inspired by John Sibbick’s palaeoart in David Norman’s 1985 Encyclopaedia of Dinosaurs, which I think makes them somewhat interesting.
Dakosaurus means “biter lizard,” a most appropriate name for any metriorhynchid. There are currently two recognized species: D. maximus from throughout Europe and D. andiniensis from Argentina. Unlike other metriorhynchids, D. andiniensis possessed a noticeably short, deep snout, which has led it to be nicknamed “Godzilla.” It is also the geologically youngest known metriorhynchid, hailing from the Early Cretaceous as well as the Late Jurassic.
It is always interesting when a toy of a species is made not by a well-known maker and of a specific species or fossil, and for it to come out fairly decently. For this review, I will be looking at such an example: Pliosaurus carpenteri, a pliosaur from the lower Kimmeridgian of the Westbury Clay pit, and produced for the Bristol city Museum and art gallery.

This time, Cryolophosaurus is our focus, a great reptile of Antarctica’s Late Jurassic period. Let’s see if this edition of ‘Elvisaurus’ is a big hunk o’ love, or if we will return to sender.
Fossils from the polar regions are a rarity, and it often boggles the mind to think of dinosaurs in the ice and snow of places like Antarctica. During the Late Jurassic, Antarctica was part of Gondwanaland, so was warmer and host to a large number of dinosaurs, such as the theropod Cryolophosaurus, nicknamed “Elvisaurus” for its phenomenal crest.
Right to begin with, yes, three figures by Linde are already thoroughly represented on this blog, the Tyrannosaurus, Sphenacodon and Dimetrodon. But for the sake of completeness I include those three in this review aswell.
From the savage teeth of tyrannosaurs to the intimidating horns of ceratopsians to the endearing crests of hadrosaurs and to the peculiar noggins of pachycephalosaurs, dinosaur skulls truly are stupendous. I previously reviewed Safari’s toob of prehistoric mammal skulls; now I’ll be looking at their Dino Skulls toob.
Greetings DinoWaurriors! Once more, I bring you a species from the battling trading figure series, this time Brachiosaurus! Given the size and popularity of the species, it’s unsurprising they would add it to the line. Is his a gem or a dud though?
“It’s, it’s a dinosaur”, these were the first words uttered in Jurassic Park upon seeing the first full sized dinosaur in the film, a Brachiosaurus. We see our protagonist’s reactions first and their acting sets the tone.
In this review, I am going back to the mid-2000’s, to a time when Collecta was not the producer of high quality models they are now. They weren’t even called Collecta, but Procon. Many know of the fairly awful examples put out by the company then, but I am going to review one of the figures that showed genuine potential.

To the general population, plesiosaurs are mainly known as “that prehistoric animal which the Loch Ness Monster might be,” though they were, of course, a very distinct group of reptiles with a long and important role in the history of palaeontology.
